Brookline Avenue Water & Sewer Line Upgrades

The Boston Water and Sewer Commission will be working along Brookline Avenue between September 2017 and November 2018 to upgrade the water, sewer and drainage systems that serve the Longwood Area. The work will require the temporary closure of sections of the street, impacting all modes of travel along Brookline Ave. All work will be conducted outside of the peak morning and afternoon travel times to reduce the impact on travel in the area.

Work between the Riverway and Longwood Ave. will be scheduled for nights between 7:00PM and 5:00AM. Overnight disruptions will directly impact travel to the following institutions and buildings:

  • Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center – West Campus
  • Brigham & Women’s Hospital
  • Dana-Farber Cancer Institute
  • Joslin Diabetes Center
  • Longwood Center
  • MATEP

Work between Longwood Ave and the Fenway is scheduled to take place days from 9:30AM to 3:30PM. Midday disruptions will directly impact travel to the following institutions and buildings:

  • Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center – East Campus
  • BIDMC Shapiro Center
  • Simmons College Residential Campus
  • Emmanuel College
  • Wheelock College
  • The Winsor School

Disruptions in travel are expected along Brookline Avenue throughout the 13-month project duration. The lane closures on Brookline Avenue will impact traffic congestion, transit service, bicycle travel and pedestrian access. This page provides updates on the construction project and information on current and upcoming travel disruptions.
