December 11, 2018: 'Tis the Season of Giving

Looking for a way to give back this holiday season?

The Harvard Schools of the Longwood Campus (HMS, Harvard Chan School and HSDM) are ushering in the 2018-2019 Season of Giving by providing opportunities to help our local neighbors through voluntary food, toy and clothing drives.

Toy Drive:  December 3rd – December 19th
The Harvard Longwood Campus community is helping families in need by participating in the Phillips Brooks House holiday gift drive. The goal is to provide books, games, toys, art supplies and sports equipment to children in need. All are invited to donate new, unopened gifts for children of preschool through high-school age.

Collection box locations for both the food and toy drives will be at the following locations:

And for the New Year:

Clothing Drive:  January 15th, 16th & 17th; 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM
Harvard Longwood Campus Offices of Human Resources will be hosting a clothing drive for  Boomerangs. Boomerangs is a family of non-profit thrift stores in the Greater Boston area, owned and operated by AIDS Action Committee of Massachusetts. One hundred percent (100%!) of store proceeds go towards supporting AIDS Action’s mission:  Prevent new infections, support those affected or at risk and tackle the root causes of HIV/AIDS.

Please note:  All donations are tax-deductible.  You will get a receipt when you drop off any donations at one of the locations listed below.

Donations can be dropped off at the following locations:

HMS – Courtyard Café

Harvard Chan School – Kresge Atrium

HSDM – REB Lobby – 188 Longwood Avenue (side glass entrance)

Landmark Center, 5th Floor West

Boomerangs accept new or gently used men’s and women’s clothing, shoes, jewelry and accessories.

Aside from the donations to the thrift stores, Boomerangs also aims to meet the needs of clients at AIDS Action Committee, including their Youth on Fire program which serves homeless youth ages 14 – 24 in Harvard Square. They are always in need of the following:

  • New Socks (black is preferred)
  • New Underwear (all sizes but especially L-2X)
  • Winter hats (if hosting in winter months-early spring)
  • Winter gloves (if hosting in winter months-early spring)
