It may look as if raindrops are falling, but the 10,000 hand crafted glass raindrops are an optical illusion securely tethered to the ceiling of the atrium at Mass Art's Design and Media Center.
The large 2 story+ atrium of Mass Art's new Design and Media Center was begging for a statement installation, and Visiting Professor sculptor Daniel Clayman said the idea came to him after talking to his students about structured light.
"Rainfield" is comprised of 10,000 glass drops suspended from the atrium's ceiling with very thin wire. Students with majors from all disciplines worked together to create "Rainfield."
Rainfield will be available to view at the Design and Media Center until January, 2018.
