July 25, 2017: MassDot says "Stay away if you can"

Construction is set to begin on the BU Bridge and with it will come A LOT of commuting headaches. MassDot Commissioner Stephanie Pollack is urging commuters to "stay away if you can, and if you have to go through, have a plan!"

The project starts WEDNESDAY July 26th and is set to run for two weeks. MassDOT is reminding the public that travel impacts will affect the Boston University/Saint Paul Street neighborhood of Boston along Commonwealth Avenue due to the Commonwealth Avenue Bridge Replacement Project.

Drivers on Commonwealth Avenue, the BU Bridge and I-90 will see lane closings or reductions.  Customers of the MBTA Worcester/Framingham Commuter Rail Line, Green Line B and Amtrak Lake Shore Limited will also be impacted during the construction phase.

The Commonwealth Bridge Replacement Project this summer involves replacing the eastbound bridge deck which carries motor vehicles on it and trolleys for the MBTA’s Green Line B branch.  Under the Commonwealth Avenue Bridge are I-90 travel lanes and track used by Amtrak and the MBTA Worcester/Framingham commuter rail line.
