April 6, 2018: First Lady Michelle Obama Keynote Speaker at Simmons Conference

Turns out that former First Lady Michelle Obama is a lot like the rest of students today - she too was saddled with student loan debt as she pursued her higher education goals.

Mrs. Obama was the keynote speaker yesterday at the Simmons College Annual Women's Leadership Conference in Boston. In a question and answer session moderated by Simmons President Helen Drinan, Mrs. Obama discussed her 'mountain of debt' after graduating from law school and the stigma of "affirmative action" when it relates to a person of color: “I have a problem with that, because affirmative action exists everywhere throughout society. It’s called privilege," she said.” (Quote courtesy of the Boston Business Journal.)
