Farewell to Outside//

As we usher in fall, we are saying farewell to the Outside// 2021 season. The umbrellas, game cart, and ping pong table will be stowed for winter in the coming weeks. Outdoor seating will remain through mid-November, weather permitting. Outside// transforms the public spaces in Longwood to support the needs of the thousands of people that come to the area every day to work, learn, and heal, creating space for the community to come together. In its third year, Outside// offered safe, socially distanced gathering places as more people returned to Longwood, after more than a year responding to the COVID-19 pandemic

THANK YOU, OUTSIDE// AMBASSADORS

We wanted to take a moment to thank those who worked tirelessly behind the scenes to bring levity and rest to Longwood’s outdoor spaces this summer.

Kareem, George, and Mike from VPNE have been our Outside// ambassadors this season, unfurling the umbrellas every morning, keeping track of program equipment, cleaning tables and chairs, and even playing ping pong with doctors and patients when they need an opponent! We are honored to have had their watchful eyes and helpful hands this season.

Sam Dechenne, booking managing and musical content coordinator for Outside//, has been with the Outside// program since it’s conception in 2019, curating a wide array of music selections from jazz to classical to ethereal vibraphone music. We are thankful for the fun and moments of stillness he and his musicians created.

THANK YOU, MEMBERS

Lastly, we want to thank the institutions that opened up their sidewalks and plazas to new possibilities: Boston Children’s Hospital, Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Brigham and Women’s Hospital, and Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. Thank you for your partnership in bringing more moments of calm and play to the Longwood Medical and Academic Area.
