Traffic
Direction:
Exiting from the 375 Longwood Garage onto Longwood Avenue is
often difficult during the evening rush hour. During this time,
monthly parkers are encouraged to exit through the back gate
onto Nessel Way in an effort to reduce congestion on Longwood.
In anticipation of even more congestion during construction of
the Joslin Project across the street, a Police Detail will be
stationed at the intersection during the afternoon rush hour to
help keep things moving smoothly.
Why are
the parking spaces so narrow?
The parking spaces in this garage are narrower than you may be
accustomed to, but not atypical for a facility that is located
in such a dense development area. While this can make parking
your car more challenging, it does allow us to make more spaces
available to employees, patients, and visitors. Widening each
space just six inches would reduce the number of available
spaces significantly. The current spacing format represents our
best attempt to balance convenience and efficiency.
Why is
parking so expensive?
The cost of parking on-site in the LMA is set at market rates by
the institutions in an effort to encourage employees to use
transit options (if available) or park off-site so that there
will be ample room for patient and visitor parking. The
off-site rates charged to institutions are based on the cost of
providing parking and shuttle services. Even at the rates
charged, the institutions and MASCO end up subsidizing the cost
to some extent. Daytime rates are set to encourage short-term
use by patients and visitors. Please call MASCO’s CommuteWorks
at 617-632-2796 if you would like more information about
commuting options.
Parking
Office is very helpful and responsive:
Thank you for your positive feedback. MASCO strives to provide
you with the best customer service available.
Parking for
motorcycles:
The 375 Longwood Garage has 4 dedicated slots for motor
scooters. They located near the back entrance (off of Nessel
Way) and are available on a first–come, first-served basis.
Motorcycles are not allowed in the garage for safety
reasons—they are not heavy enough to trip our electronic egress
system, which causes delays and presents a physical hazard to
the cyclist who might get hit by the exit gate.
