Longwood Medical Area Child Care Center was established by MASCO in 1982 to meet the needs of employees and students in the Longwood Medical and Academic Area. LMACCC is a consortium of participating LMA institutions -- Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, Harvard Medical School, Harvard School of Public Health, Joslin Diabetes Center, Simmons College, and MASCO -- and the community.
Mission Statement
Our mission is to
provide quality child care to members of the LMA
community. Because we love children we strive to:
- create a secure
environment where children, parents, and staff feel safe to
communicate feelings, where they are actively listened to,
and their individual needs are attended;
- be highly adaptive
to the ever-changing and unique needs of a diverse
community;
- create a warm, sincere,
and caring environment that promotes children's self-esteem
and social, emotional, physical and cognitive development.
A
Nurturing Environment
The Longwood Medical Area
Child Care Center (LMACCC) offers a nurturing environment that
supports each child's social, emotional, physical and cognitive
development. Approximately 95 children are enrolled,
including infants from 2 months old to children age 5. A
warm caring staff, all certified by the Massachusetts Office of
Child Care Services, address each child's needs and implement
appropriate, individualized learning plans.
A Nationally
Recognized Program
Respect for children,
their families, and divers cultures is an integral part of the
curriculum, which is geared to promote each child's emerging
self-confidence and self-esteem. More than 12 different cultures
are represented at the Center. Children enrolled in the
Center's nationally recognized program experience successes
throughout their daily routine as they make choices about play
and self-help skills. A consistent program throughout the
Center provides stability for children and families as they move
through the age-designated programs.
Located in the
Longwood Medical and Academic Area
The Center is located
at 395 Longwood Avenue, in Boston, adjacent to the 375 Longwood
complex occupied by MASCO. It was established in 1982 to
meet the child-care needs of employees and students at the
Longwood Medical and Academic Area (LMA) institutions. The
LMACCC is a consortium for participating LMA institutions -
Brigham and Women's Hospital, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute,
Harvard Medical School, Harvard School of Public Health, Joslin
Diabetes Center, Simmons College, MASCO - and the community.
Modern
Facilities
The Center is a modern
two-story building with the Infant and Toddler Program on the
first floor and the Preschool Program on the second floor.
Each classroom is equipped with a bathroom that has child-size
amenities and an area for preparing snacks and warming
lunches. An enclosed roof-top terrace playground provides
an inviting outdoor play area with space for quiet as well as
active, staff-supervised play.
Communication with
Families
Communication between
the staff and parents is tailored to meet the individual needs
of each family by direct classroom phone access, e-mail, fax,
beepers, and pagers. Frequent parental contact is
encouraged. Enrolled families may visit the Center at
anytime during the day.
