Making Playtime a Priority for Kids at Boston Children's Hospital

Being sick is not fun, and it is particularly no fun when you are a kid. Hospitals can be intimidating and daunting places, with all the monitors, alarms, beepers and tubes. Not exactly an ideal children's playground.

Renowned entertainer and producer Ryan Seacrest wants to change that.

Last Friday, Seacrest was in the LMA to celebrate the opening of a brand new Ryan Seacrest studio at Boston Children's Hospital (BCH). The studio ensures that kids have places to just be kids, and, more than anything, it’s about making time to celebrate children, both patients and their siblings, and allowing them to feel like kids again through laughter, music and play. The new facility is intended to be a creative outlet for patients.

“I wanted to do something that would inspire and encourage and enlighten and something I knew how to do. I have spent a lot of years in these studios,” Seacrest told reporters.

And he didn’t come alone.

The event also featured Usher, Disney star Shawn Mendes and country singing duo The Swan Brothers.

Through the generosity of the Seacrest family, which shares BCH's passion for making play a priority, the studio will bring the magic of Hollywood, music and television to families looking for a much-needed escape. In the state-of-the-art radio and television studio, children can interview hospital guests and play deejay for a day. Kids too sick to visit the studio in person can watch interviews or play remote games through direct feeds to their room.

BCH is home to Seacrest's eighth studio. Other studios are located in children's hospitals in Atlanta, Cincinnati, Dallas, Charlotte, Philadelphia, Denver and Orange County, CA.
