Earlier this month The Dimock Center in Roxbury — a nationally recognized community health center affiliated with BIDMC — broke ground on a state-of-the-art inpatient detox center. The Dr. Lucy Sewall Center for Acute Treatment Services will help meet a rising need for addiction and recovery services.

“Our number one priority is patient care, especially as we face an unprecedented opioid epidemic,” said Myechia Minter-Jordan, MD, President and CEO of The Dimock Center. “The Center will help us serve more patients and enhance our renowned substance use disorder treatment model.”

Funding for the $16 million capital campaign came from more than 50 individuals, foundations and businesses, including $1 million from Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center.

The Dimock Center houses one of only three inpatient detox facilities in Boston and one of 30 in the state, offering addiction recovery services for men and women throughout the Commonwealth. The renovation will increase its inpatient acute treatment beds from 30 to 40, reaching an additional 1,000 people annually for a total of 4,000 patients served each year.
