Stop wasting time in traffic and start
saving money with the help of CommuteWorks

CommuteWorks provides the following services to the employees and students of MASCO’s 21 member and associate member institutions in the Longwood Medical and Academic Area:

Commute Fit Program:
If you walk, run, bike, or skate to the Longwood Medical and Academic Area for work then you are eligible for the CommuteFit program. Once you register for CommuteFit, you can start keeping track of the number of miles that you run, bike, walk, or skate to work, and as the miles add up, we send you prizes to reward you for your efforts. Some of the prizes you can receive include water bottles, key chains, pedometers, fitness journals, coffee mugs, lunch totes, and backpacks. Once you log 500 miles, you receive a $30 gift card to REI!  If you log 1,000 miles, you will receive a grand prize messenger bag filled with all sorts of great commuting prizes. Just for joining CommuteFit, you will receive a discount coupon to REI that you can use to buy new gear for your commute.

As a registered CommuteFit member, you are also eligible to register for our free Emergency Ride Home Program.

Emergency Ride Home Program
The Emergency Ride Home Program offers free taxi or car rental vouchers to employees who need to get home for qualified personal emergencies. To be eligible to register for this program, you must be in a registered carpool or vanpool, in your institution’s MBTA-pass subsidy program, or in the CommuteFit Program. Participants may use an Emergency Ride Home up to five times per year.

Longwood T Party:
The Longwood "T" Party Program is a three-month transit incentive program that allows drive-alone commuters to try transit risk-free! Registered participants can place their parking spots on hold and in return receive subsidies on transit passes and parking at transit stations during a three-month trial period allowing them to save over $330 on their commuting costs.

Personalized Commute Assistance:
CommuteWorks can provide personalized commuting assistance for employees who use our online form or contact us by phone. Tell us your address, and your hours of work and we'll outline all of your options for your commute. CommuteWorks can also provide maps, schedules and resources for all modes of commuting.

Ridesharing:
CommuteWorks can help place you in carpools or vanpools with people who are commuting into the Longwood Medical and Academic Area for work/school from your home area and who have approximately the same working hours as you. Once you join a carpool or vanpool, you will be eligible to to participate in the Emergerceny Ride Home Program and the Pool-Aide Parking Program which allows you to purchase day parking passes for $5 each to park at an off-site parking lot up to five times a month. This is great for people who regularly rideshare but need to occasionally commute alone.

CommuteWorks also offers various incentives for drive alone commuters who form new carpools.  Through the Longwood CarPool Party Program, current drive alone commuters are able to place their registered parking spaces on hold and try carpooling risk free for three months.  During the duration of the program, qualified participants will receive free parking and a $25 gas card per person per month.  To be eligible for this program, participants must currently have a registered parking space that they are willing to place on hold for three months. Carpools must also have a minimum of three participants and carpool three or more days a week.

Zipcar:
CommuteWorks works with Zipcar to provide the employees and students of the LMA easy and affordable access to a car during and after work. Zipcar is a fleet of new cars that can be checked out, online or by phone, by the hour that can be used for personal and professional reasons during and after work. There are 13 Zipcars located right in the LMA with many more in the immediate surrounding area. LMA locations with Zipcar include the 375 Longwood Garage on Longwood Avenue, Simmons College, Longwood Towers, Brigham Circle, and the Landmark Center.

As a MASCO affiliate, there is no application fee or security deposit to join Zipcar and the annual cost is only $25, a significant savings off the regular membership price.
