Are you stressed out from driving alone? Do you want to save money
and prevent wear and tear on your car and on yourself?
Well, CommuteWorks has the answer…ridesharing.

Ridesharing is the smart way to share your ride and your expenses, and will be your ticket to saving money, saving time, saving the earth, and maybe even preventing a few gray hairs.

To determine your savings by Ridesharing, use our
Commuter Calculator

If you are interested in joining a carpool (2-4 people) or a vanpool (9-15 people), CommuteWorks will try to match you up with people commuting from your area to the Longwood Medical and Academic Area, who work approximately the same hours as you.

For a list of individuals from your area with similar
commuting needs, please complete the
Ridematching Registration Form.

CARPOOLS

Carpooling is as easy as one…two…three…
with CommuteWorks.

  1. Look on the CommuteWorks' website
  2. Fill out the Ridematching Registration Form
  3. Receive a list of individuals from your area who also want to be placed in a carpool.

Carpools are made up of two or more individuals commuting from the same area to the Longwood Medical and Academic Area and who work about the same hours as you. If you are in a carpool, you share the driving, the parking expenses, and the cost of gas.

Do you already carpool to work with at least one other person?  If so, please register your carpool by completing the Carpool Registration Form. By registering your carpool, all carpool participants will receive use of CommuteWorks’ Emergency Ride Home Program in which they can receive a free taxi ride or rental car home in the event of an emergency. Participants will also be enrolled in the Pool-Aide Parking Program which provides, up to five times a month, parking vouchers for an off-site parking lot on days when they cannot carpool.

Carpools of two or more people are also eligible to use special carpool lanes on Interstate 93 southbound from Medford to Boston and on the Southeast Expressway (I-93) south of Boston. Commuter groups of three or more people using the MassPike and the Sumner/Callahan Tunnel are eligible for reduced tolls through the FAST LANE Carpool Program.

Through the The Longwood CarPool Party, CommuteWorks is offering free parking and free gas to newly formed carpools. Qualified carpools will receive free parking and a $25 gas card per person per month for the three months of the program.

To be eligible for this program, participants must currently have a registered parking space that they are willing to place on hold for the three month duration of the program. Carpools must also have a minimum of three participants and carpool three or more days a week.

To learn more about and register for The Longwood CarPool Party, please contact CommuteWorks at (617) 632-2796 or commuteworks@masco.harvard.edu.

VANPOOLS

Sit back, relax, and enjoy the chauffeured ride to work. Vanpools are comfortable and cost-effective forms of transportation for groups of 9-15 people. If you are in a vanpool, you drive your car to a central location by your home and from there, you get into a van and you are chauffeured to the Longwood Medical and Academic Area (LMA). CommuteWorks has arranged with MASSRIDES, to coordinate vanpooling services for the LMA. Vanpools receive free on-site parking in the LMA, which makes vanpools convenient and less expensive than driving alone.

The following locations are currently served by LMA vanpools (click here):

CommuteWorks, in partnership with MASSRIDES, is also in the process of forming new vanpools from Metro West, Rhode Island, and Southern New Hampshire.  If you live in one of these areas and are interested in vanpooling to the LMA, please contact CommuteWorks for additional information.

Commuters in vanpools are eligible for the Emergency Ride Home Program and for the Pool-Aide Program. The Emergency Ride Home Program is designed to pay for your taxi ride home (gratuity not included) if you need to get home for an emergency. If you need to drive into the Longwood Medical and Academic Area by yourself a few times a month, CommuteWorks will also offer you up to five parking vouchers per month for $5 each for off-site parking, as part of the Pool-Aide Program.
